Teenagers
At The Well, the teenage journey is honored here, in all of its wonderfulness, messiness, and intensity. Much like taking a course in a subject at school, the subject here is YOU. We will be exploring all the fascinating ways your brain works, how you can change thought patterns, behaviors, build resilience, regulate emotions, and strengthen social connections. Whether you are feeling challenged by your mental health, or are just looking for someone to help navigate through the teen years, or want to connect with other teenagers in deeper, more meaningful ways, The Well has something here for you. Welcome.
individual sessions
In these weekly sessions, you and your counselor will explore issues important to you, work through specific life challenges, and design an individualized plan to help you feel confident and empowered. You and your counselor will develop a trusting rapport that will help you really delve into the questions and answers of your life. Together, you'll work on building positive coping strategies and boosting self-esteem. Certain therapeutic skills, such as from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, may be integrated into the session to help you feel empowered to make the changes you want to make.
small groups
Small after-school groups for middle-schoolers and high-schoolers will be offered this school year. Together with a counselor, you will form a sense of belonging in this group, learning how to express yourself clearly, share things that are important in your life, and learn specific interpersonal skills. These will help you connect, build trust and open up in a safe, supportive, inclusive environment. In these small group sessions, we will be using hand crafting as a way to develop a sense of meaning and connection. These activities are not only fun to do with a group of peers, but also decrease stress and build self-confidence. See the “FAQ” to learn more about how hand crafting fits into therapy.
large group experiences
A few times throughout the school year, Susan will offer a larger group experience. These will be exciting experiences that might focus on a specific theme, bring in outside experts, and build community and belonging within a larger group of middle or high schoolers. Some examples may include having an outdoor experience, creating a large group art project, learning a craft from a local artisan, or doing a deep dive into understanding healthy relationships.
small groups schedule
Tuesdays: 4:00-5:00
Thursdays: 4:00-5:00
Depending on interest, there is a possibility for a second group offered on either day, 5:00-6:00. Each group will either be for middle school-aged teens, or high school-aged teens. Reach out to find availability.
Small groups at The Well are designed to coincide with the school year (Sept-May), and will include breaks that line up with the local school calendar. Participants are encouraged to stay for the entire school year in order to get the full value of the experience and increase connection and trust within the group.
